Teaching Awards 2009
22/06/2009
Mr Allen who is one of our teachers of Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics was recently nominated by Mrs Senior, Head of Social Sciences at Ashton, for a Teaching Award. The nomination was also backed by Mrs Beer, Headteacher, on behalf of the school. The Teaching Awards are a great honour in the teaching profession and our very own Executive Headteacher, Mr Kapur, won the North West Headteacher of the Year in 2007. Mr Allen reached the final three of the North West heat for ‘Outstanding New Teacher of the Year’. It may seem odd to see the word ‘New’ in the award title as Mr Allen has been working at Ashton for over 12 years, however, for much of this time his role was that of mentor and counsellor, and whilst he taught a number of lessons as part of his timetable, it is only within the last few years he decided to make the move full-time over to the teaching side of the staff.
The North West Teaching Awards ceremony took place at the Lowry Theatre in Salford on 18th June. Over 8,000 nominations for just 12 awards were made and Mr Allen was awarded a Distinction, coming second in his category and gaining the highest award for a secondary school teacher in that category.
Congratulations Mr Allen.
