December is here so the build up to Christmas can officially start in the eyes of many. Ashton on Mersey’s annual Christmas Fair was a soaring success on Thursday. Carols were sung. Mince pies were eaten. Raffles were won. Mulled wine was drank. School was packed with happy members of our community. Thank you for your support.

Our first community coffee morning was well attended on Thursday by a host of parents, carers and local residents. It was a real treat to hear our school choir for the first time in a while supported by Natalie who played fantastically on the piano. The choir has grown significantly over the past couple of years and we are looking forward to more community performances during the festive period, including a visit to a local primary school and a residential care home.

Ashton on Mersey has long held a reputation of providing excellent education for all its pupils. I wish to emphasise the ‘all’. I was proud to receive information this week which indicates how our examination results continue to put the school in a strong position when compared to other Trafford schools. For example, the attainment of pupils has been nationally recognised as being significantly above national statistics when reflecting on the GCSE results of 2023.

October half term has arrived. Next week is our first holiday school for Year 11 where sessions in Engineering, Food, Hospitality and Catering, Business Studies, Child Development and Sport all take place. May I encourage every pupil who studies these courses to sign up. This offer continues our revision and immersion package for the Class of 2024. Marginal gains count and an extra day of learning can potentially make a significant difference to outcomes in the summer.

Our doors were opened wide on Thursday for our annual open evening. It was my pleasure to address the hundreds of prospective parents who came to see what our school provides for young people. The reputation of Ashton on Mersey is one of educational excellence, strengthened further by record results this year for the Class of 2023 and our thriving Sixth Form.
