Headteacher Message

Mr. McConaghie

It is with great sadness that I bring news of the passing of a member of our staff over the Christmas break.

Mr Barry Kelly was Head of Sixth and had been living with cancer for some time.

Mr Kelly has been a part of our school community since 2010 as a teacher of Business Studies and Head of Year before taking on the mantle of Head of Sixth Form Mr Kelly was an excellent
teacher, using his experience in the business world to inspire young people in the classroom He led the sixth form superbly with a real focus on maintaining standards, securing Outstanding status as a result of his drive and sheer hard work His dedication often went far beyond the classroom with his passion for walking playing a role in wider events such as his regular commitment to the Duke of Edinburgh award expeditions.

Students came first with Mr Kelly and he has guided hundreds (if not thousands) through the sixth form with honesty and good humour Our successful alumni are testament to how much Mr Kelly cared about each and every young person’s aspirations I know that there are many students past and present who will miss him

The thoughts of Ashton on Mersey are with his family.

We will consider how we can appropriately remember Mr Kelly in due course The funeral will be 2 30 pm on Tuesday 23 rd January at Altrincham Crematorium As a mark of respect to Mr Kelly, the Sixth F orm will be closed from lunchtime onwards (further details will follow to Sixth Form students)

Mrs A Crowder (Head of Key Stage 5 Mrs G Fox (Sixth Form Manager) and Mr R Norton (Head of Years 12 and 13 will continue to lead the sixth form with the ethos and principle that Mr Kelly embodied.
