The Scholarship programme will allow you to successfully combine training and games with your educational commitments, thus making Ashton on Mersey School Sixth Form a unique place to study.

What will you study?

The Football Scholarship Programme is run alongside BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels.

In this Sport and Physical Activity Development course you will cover fourteen units over the two year course, including Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training, Skill Acquisition in Sport, Business in Sport, Sports Leadership and Practical Sports Performance

Whilst studying you will compete in the North West Colleges’ League and train with experienced FA and UEFA qualified coaches. Taking part in a programme which will focus on your fitness, nutrition and improving your technical ability, preparing you for the next stage in your chosen career.

How will you study?

A variety of teaching and learning styles are utilised in BTEC Sport. Wherever possible theoretical concepts are taught through practical application.

Over half the course, 70% of your overall grade, is coursework and 30% will be externally assessed.

This is a practical, work related course and you will learn by completing tasks and assignments that are based on realistic situations.

Where will it take me?

The BTEC Sport qualification, is designed to support your progression to further study at university, when applying for higher or degree level apprenticeships or directly into employment. It will give you the transferable knowledge, understanding and skills that a university admissions tutor or potential employer will be looking for when considering your application.

This course will give you the skills to progress towards a career in Sports Therapy, Sport and Exercise Science, Sport Rehabilitation, Teaching or Sports Coaching.
